JOB DESCRIPTIONS

DOCK/DECK HANDS [apply online] [back to job list]
This position splits its time and responsibilities between the docks and aboard Shepler's ferry vessels. The dock duties include: greeting guests and tagging their luggage for various hotels on Mackinac Island, loading and unloading luggage, valeting cars, keeping the dock area clean and passing along general information to all guests. The deck hand position involves loading and unloading vessels, collecting tickets, line handling, keeping the boat clean and tidy, and a number of procedures which all crew are properly trained to do.

MAINTENANCE/CUSTODIAL [apply online] [back to job list]
This position involves keeping all areas of Shepler's neat and clean. Includes cleaning restrooms, sweeping and picking up cigarette butts, emptying trash, minor repairs, and cleaning Shepler's boats from top to bottom.

TICKET SELLERS [apply online] [back to job list]
This position not only entails selling tickets but a number of other transactions as well. Ticket sellers are responsible for keeping the ticket office neat and clean, handling cash and credit card transactions, selling passenger tickets, registering a guest's vehicle for overnight parking, selling bike tickets, taking care of tour group tickets, being a general information center to the guest, and last but not least, being personable and friendly!

CAR CARE CENTER [apply online] [back to job list]
Shepler's Car Care Center is Shepler's secured overnight parking area for guests. Crew members are responsible for parking guests vehicles in designated areas which include three fenced in outside lots and two indoor lots. Other responsibilities include: filling out the proper paperwork, filing keys, keeping the parking area and buildings clean, washing guests' vehicles and washing tour buses.

SHUTTLE DRIVERS [apply online] [back to job list]
This position involves picking up guests at various hotels and campgrounds, shuttling crew members to retrieve valet cars, maintaining and keeping all of Shepler's shuttles clean, shuttling guests to and from Shepler's overflow day parking areas and providing general information to all guests. The position requires a commercial driver's license.

FREIGHT [apply online] [back to job list]
This position is operational 5:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. M-F and from 5:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on Saturdays. Skills required include the operation of forklifts and bobcats, shipping and receiving as well as inventory of all incoming goods. Position also involves daily deckhand capabilities to and from Mackinac Island.

COFFEE ESPRESSO BAR SALESPERSON [apply online] [back to job list]
Captain Bill's Coffee and Espresso bar is now accepting applications for personnel in the making and selling of espresso and other gourmet coffees. Responsibilities include making and serving fine coffees, espresso and cold drinks. The cleaning and maintenance of cart and machinery is also required. Hours of operation will be 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. with two opposite shifts.

PARKING LOT ATTENDANT [apply online] [back to job list]
A fun first job for 14-16 year olds. Work outside greeting guests and directing them exactly where to park their vehicles. This position involves communicating with other crew members via hand held radio in an effort to fill Shepler's parking lots to capacity. Crew members rotate between greeter, waver, and parker positions throughout the day.
