FAMILY ACTIVITIES:

Games for Kids!

Are We There Yet? Map
What you will need for this game: a map of Michigan, a box of crayons.

How it works: As you start your trip show your kids where you are and where Mackinac Island is on the map. Have them draw the route with a crayon marking the starting point and ending point of the trip. As the trip progresses and they ask the inevitable, "Are we there yet?" have them mark on the map where you are in the trip. This will help them know how much further you have to go and it will keep them interested in the trip.

For Younger Children - Are We There Yet? Tickets
Make tickets out of construction paper. 1 ticket equals 30 miles. Put the correct number of tickets for your total miles to be traveled in a bag before you start your trip. Every 30 miles, ask your child for a ticket.   When all of the tickets are gone, you are at your final destination. This game will keep toddlers occupied and make them feel like they are contributing to the family by being in charge of the tickets.

The above games are listed on www.momsminivan.com.

Bringing your family pet with you?

Pets travel FREE on Shepler's!   Please keep them on a leash and on one of our outer decks on your way to and from the Island.

Mackinac Island is very pet friendly, but be sure to keep your dogs and cats on a leash and attend to them at all times.   Please also make sure that your pets are comfortable with horses, because we don't want the pets to spook our main form of transportation!

Pets are welcome on Mackinac Island Carriage Tours.   If your dog can be carried on your lap, he or she can enjoy the tour for free.   If you have a larger dog that will take up the space of one seat, you will have to pay for a child's ticket, which is fitting since dogs are our babies, too!

If you plan to enjoy one of the fine eateries on Mackinac Island, your pet will have to wait outside.   Please contact the Mackinac Island Tourist Bureau at 1-800-4LILACS for information on Island dog walkers. Don't forget the doggie bag!

If you are staying in Mackinaw City, you can leave your pet for the day at Trails End Kennel.   Call 231-436-7334 to make a reservation.
