Labor Day FAQs

Why are regular priced direct departures more expensive than a round trip ferry ticket?
Convenience.  Our special Labor Day direct departures offer a unique convenience in taking guests from point A to point B in the most efficient manner possible.

Are tickets valid for any departure?
No.  Each Labor Day direct departure ticket is dated and timed for a specific departure leaving from a specific location.  Tickets will only be valid for that date, time, and location.

When should I plan to arrive for my departure?
One (1) hour prior.  Guests should plan to arrive one (1) hour prior to their departure time to assure a hassle free travel experience.

Where do I park for my departure?
Guests traveling with Shepler’s for the Labor Day Bridge Walk should follow instructions as regular day guests.  Please visit our parking page for details.

What is needed for boarding?
Guests must present the QR code provided in their email confirmation. Clear screenshots of QR codes in lieu of email confirmations are also valid.  Confirmation numbers, names, or phone numbers are not valid for boarding.

What transportation will Shepler’s offer on the day of the walk?

Our Mackinaw City operation will be offering regular shuttle/tram transportation beginning at 5:00am between area hotels, campgrounds, our day parking lot, and dock.  Our St. Ignace operation will be offering shuttle transportation between our dock and Little Bear Arena starting at 5:30am.

How do I get from Shepler’s to the bridge?

Guests in Mackinaw City will walk to/from our dock and/or our Day Parking Lot to the south end of the Mackinac Bridge (approx. 3 blocks).  Guests in St. Ignace may either walk to Little Bear Arena (approx. 3 blocks) or enjoy complimentary Shepler’s shuttle service from our dock.  The Mackinac Bridge Authority will be offering shuttle service from Little Bear Arena to the north end of the Mackinac Bridge.  Please visit for details on shuttle service to the bridge.  There is no direct transportation from Shepler’s docks to the bridge.

What time is the bridge walk?

The walk begins at 7:00am and ends at 11:30am.  The Mackinac Bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic from 6:30am-Noon.  For details on this year’s bridge walk, please visit

Are Labor Day direct departure tickets refundable?
No.   Tickets are entirely non-exchangeable and non-refundable.  The only exception to this policy will be if the Mackinac Bridge Authority cancels the 2019 Labor Day Bridge Walk (see below).

What if the bridge walk is cancelled?
In the highly improbable and unlikely event that the Mackinac Bridge walk is cancelled, the following process will be followed.

  • If walk is cancelled prior to 5:30am on Labor Day:  All guests will receive a 100% refund.  Should this happen, all guests should visit our website after 12:00pm on Labor Day for details on receiving their full refund.
  • If walk is cancelled after 5:30am on Labor Day: Guests who have already departed should immediately proceed to the nearest Shepler’s dock for direct and complimentary ferry service back to their original departure location and will NOT receive a refund.  Guests who have not yet departed will receive a complete refund and should visit our website after 12:00pm on Labor Day for details on receiving their full refund.
  • Refunds will not be processed at either ticket office on the day of the event.

Had a wonderful time on the island, Shepler’s did their part in grand style getting us to and back from Mackinac; this was my wife’s first visit, See you next year

Kathleen Johnson

Thank you so much for commenting! We’re happy to hear you both enjoyed. See you next year for sure!

Nancy Seiger

Will there be shuttle service back to point of pickup

Kathleen Johnson

Hi Nancy. We’re not sure specifically what area you’re referencing. But please take a look at the information on this page about transportation. That may help answer your question. If you still have inquiries, please email Thanks!

Jerry Springer

Need info on the shuttle from Little Bear Arena to the north end of the Bridge. Is there any cost for this?

Kathleen Johnson

Hi there Jerry and thanks for commenting. There is no cost for Shepler’s transportation to/from Little Bear. We suggest you reach out to the Mackinac Bridge Authority or St. Ignace Visitors Bureau for any costs associated with their transportation. Thank you for asking!

Candace Nienhuis

Do we need to pay to bring a stroller onto the ferry for the bridge walk?

Kathleen Johnson

There is no charge for strollers aboard Shepler’s. For information on what items are permitted for the bridge walk, we suggest you reach out directly to the Mackinac Bridge Authority. Thank you!

Wendy McD

How long will the ferry ride be from one end to the other? How much time should we plan for to get from the ferry departure to the beginning of the walk?

Kathleen Johnson

Hi there Wendy. The trip across the Straits with us will be approximately 20-25 minutes. We’re not clear on your last question and several variables would determine our answer. If walking from our Mackinaw City lot to the base of the bridge, we would anticipate 15 minutes. To get from our Mackinaw City dock to the base of the bridge also would be 15 minutes. To get from our St. Ignace dock to the base of the bridge will depend on the pace of transportation you choose (walking to Little Bear Arena vs shuttle service), etc. We hope this helps and please feel free to email with additional questions. Thanks!

Hi there.

In the past I have used your services to visit mackinac island few times. Thank you for the excellent service.
The question now is Labor day ticket is that a single usage (point A – point B or vice versa) or can be used for multiple trips between those points.

Kathleen Johnson

Hi there and thank you for asking! Our direct departure Labor Day tickets are valid for one departure between point a and b. Departure times and locations are noted each ticket and are only valid for that time and location. Thanks again.
