This morning, November 30, we were made aware that an individual likely in a foreign country, has created a personal Facebook profile which is attempting to impersonate Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry utilizing both our logo and our imagery of the William Richard.
Most concerning, this individual is friend requesting other personal users, including those who have liked and/or engaged with the Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry Facebook company page and sending direct messages requesting credit card and personal banking information.
We immediately reported this activity to Facebook as well as to local law enforcement and our attorney general’s office.
The purpose for this message is to make you aware of this scam attempt and to assist you in navigating a safe social media experience. Please know that Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry would never request your credit card information via social media. Further, we suggest you never provide personal banking information of any type to an online source that isn’t completely verified.
This scam is not a hack or an attack and please be assured that our own ticketing information and/or the personal information of our guests purchasing tickets has not been impacted in any way.
