Greetings from the Straits!

We’re thrilled to announce that our 75th season will officially commence on Friday, May 29th when service begins from both Mackinaw City and St. Ignace at 7:30am.

Unlike recent years where our “queen of the fleet”, the Miss Margy sailed first marking the official start of a new season, this year we’ve aptly chosen The Hope for our initial departure, noting a symbolic and emotional start to a season of new normal in the Michigan tourism industry.

We regret that our 600,000 printed 2020 schedules have already been distributed with incorrect departure information.  Our revised schedule is noted below and will be available here at  We’re encouraging all guests to sign up for our Ferry Tales newsletter via the home page to receive up to date schedule information as it comes available.  Current schedule information will also be available on Shepler’s social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram –– Stories Feature).

Depart Mackinac Island (for Mackinaw City and St. Ignace)

Our complete operational plan for the 2020 season will be made public here at before opening day.  Chris Shepler commented on the many changes going into effect,  “The safety and security of our guests has always been at the forefront of our entire decision making process.  Now more than ever, we want our guests to feel safe and comfortable during their transit to and from Mackinac Island.  Safety first, service second, now and always.”

On behalf of our entire family, we’d like to thank our guests and also our dedicated crew for your continued support during these past few months.  Now more than ever, we’re looking forward to getting back to business, doing what we love, and being the very best we can be.

Visit our tickets page to purchase online in advance.

Stay tuned for details in coming days.  We’re excited to be moving forward and we’re happy you’re here by our side.

Are there any later boats than 4:30pm on Sunday, June 21. Any other taxi service we could use if you dont run later?

I was looking for information regarding your response to Covid 19. Are the boats filled with with less capacity? Must masks be worn?

Thank you

With limited departures, can over-night guests book / reserve specific sailing time tickets?
Will boats be filled to capacity or will there be social distancing.?
We have 5 rooms for 2 nights reserved in mid July but I’m worried how we’ll all get to the island safely???
